Visit our Ore Mountains “ Rudohoří”
The Ore Mountains have been visited because of the popular and mysterious mines which are the main destination of many tourists. At present, they are seeking of UNESCO organization. Ore and uranium mining started at the 16. century and in some places until today. The Ore Mountains and parts of these mine places have earned the apt name Rudohoří.
These places are also referred to as European rarities. One of the most famous destination mainly visited due to the mines is the called gate of the Ore Mountains Jáchymov, where the two oldest Jáchymov’s mines, Svornost and Rovnost, are located. These uranium mines are primarily known as the former working camps of political prisoners. Today, rare uranium and silver are mined at Svornost.
You can visit the tours of these mines, but do not go underground without warm clothes, because breathes on you the cold and damp of you from the rocks. Unfortunately, these tours are nothing for claustrophobics, as the underground spaces are sometimes very cramped and dark. Lovers of adrenaline will also find their way out, as tours are sometimes enriched by climbing ladders or narrow ledges, and visitors can reach many less accessible places.
Who is afraid of visiting the mines can at least get to know their history from the outside, when they follow the Nature Trail, which begins in Jáchymov near the church, leads through the Svornost mine to Nové Město and leads you to the mining museum.
We also recommend our guests the mine Johannes and Mauritius, or Ore mines to Bludná or Měděnec mine, where copper was mined.
In the Měděnec mine you crawl underground passages, illuminated chambers, and you will also find a small lake created by flooding the chamber. These unique places are worth visiting!
